I come from an art and drama background having studied foundation art in Wimbledon and professional performance in Birmingham. I have therefore been surrounded by creative people and initiatives for most of my working life.
After drama training, my first job was in Theatre in Education. I toured the length and breadth of the British Isles, including Orkney, Shetland and Northern Ireland. I lectured in Worcester teaching B.Tech Performing Arts, and then went on to work for a pioneering community Theatre Company over the next 14 years. During this time, I not only helped devise and perform in many original and issue based pieces of theatre, but I was also responsible behind the scenes in the technical department. I designed, sourced, built and painted theatre scenery, made costumes and props, and fully utilised both my creative and practical strengths.
Over the years I’ve had numerous pieces of art commissioned, including fine art, collage, wedding timelines and currently book illustrations.
I have recently had a break from performing to have a child. The idea for the animal models came from one that I made as a gift for my lad. ‘Jess the Cat’ from the Postman Pat franchise. I wondered if the same principle would work for a real cat, so I created a model of ‘Bertie’ for a friend who was delighted with the result.
I am extending my range of replicas to cats, dogs, rabbits, and other animals. I will be pleased to consider any request individually. The portraits have been a natural progression from the original pet replica idea.
